Felix's Page

Hello, and welcome to my little home on the net :-)

I hope that you enjoy your time on Social Studies World. While I created this site as part of a class assignment, my goal is that it becomes more than just a project and a way to advance the education and information regarding the various fields that make up the Social Studies.

A little about myself: I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. I attended the University of Pittsburgh, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts with Program Honors in both History and Political Science, and a minor in Economics, in April of 2004. While at Pitt, I served in student government as the President of my residence hall and Vice-President of the campus-wide Resident Student Association, as well as a term as Chairman of the Allocations Committee for the Student Government Board, and was Secretary-General of the University of Pittsburgh Model United Nations Conference for two years. I was also a resident assistant for two years in a freshmen residence hall, and was a finalist for the University Senior of the Year Award. I hold a Masters of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, where I graduated with a 4.0 from the graduate school. I completed student teaching at Berwick Area Middle School, where I student taught 7th grade Ancient World History, and Northwest Area High School, where I student taught 11th grade Modern World History and 12th grade Psychology. Currently, I am employed by the South Fayette School District in suburban Pittsburgh, where I teach 10th grade World Cultures, 11th grade Honors American Cultures, and 12th grade Economics. I also serve as the advisor to Student Government, Model UN, and the Homecoming Committee. I am proud to work at South Fayette, one of the best school districts in the Pittsburgh area. I am certified in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to teach Social Studies, Citizenship, and Business, Computer and Information Technology. My Praxis (Teaching Licensure test) scores include a 199 out of 200 on the Social Studies Content Knowledge Exam, and a 200 out of 200 on the Citizenship Education Content Knowledge Exam.

I have had the opportunity to have several positions related to educational matters, besides my formal teaching experiences. I formerly worked as a legislative aide to Pennsylvania State Senator (and now U.S. Congressman) Tim Murphy while he served on the Education Committee in the Pennsylvania State Senate, allowing me to interact with various educational officials. I am a past employee of the Learning Skills Center at the University of Pittsburgh as a Supplemental Instruction Leader in Economics, as well as a former employee of the Dean of Freshmen as a Freshmen Studies Teaching Assistant, and University Tutorial Services at Bloomsburg University, assisting students in Economics and U.S. History. In addition, I also hold two educational board positions. I am the Pennsylvania Representative on the Board of Directors of the National Academic Games Tournament, and serve on the Board of Directors of the Pittsburgh Chapter ofCitizens for Global Solutions. Previously I was employed by the National Academic Games Tournament to write their Social Studies Questions for their national tournament, a position I received after winning several National Championships in their tournament while in High School

Outside of class, I enjoy reading, following politics, and following the Pittsburgh sports teams. If you like, I'd love to hear from you, either about the website or anything else that you'd like to chat about.
